THE CONCEPT OF DEMOCRACY AND CITIZENSHIP

DEMOCRACY:-

Man is a social animal.This means that man cannot live alone.He has to live with other human beings for his survival,so the question arises as to how human beings should live together.One way may be that,might is right.Which means all decisions are based on power.The strong have no one to ask and the weak have to bow their heads in every situation.Is this the right way to live together? Obviously, this is not the right way,because it is injustice to society and the social balance deteriorates,this creates hatred among the people and destroys the peace of the society.

Equality:-

Equality is an important pillar of democracy,meaning that all citizens,regardless of color,race,class,region,creed,religion,languages and gender have equal status in the eyes of the law.

Participation:-

This means that every citizen has the right to participate in the democratic process,regardless of color,race,class,religion or gender.No citizen has been deprived of this right

Corporation:-

In democracy,decision-making is not possible without the corporation of the people.No citizen has been deprived of this right.Thus,in a democracy,not only does the common man participate in government formation,but he also governs through his representatives.

Discussion and Debate:-

In a democracy,decision-making is by consensus.Debate is necessary to build consensus.In a democracy,not only is debate allowed,but it is considered a good practice.All disputes and differences are resolved through healthy debate,and decisions are made by referendum.

Tolerance:-

All citizens have the right to equality,regardless of race,creed,religion,class or gender,every citizen must respect the rights of other citizens.

Sincerity and generosity:-

Democracy encourages expression.Openly respects the views of others and everyone has the right to disagree.

These three stages are interconnected and we take the help of an example to further understand it.Suppose there is a lot of garbage in the street in front of you,so there is a problem of cleanliness in this street.let's see what is the democratic solution to this problem.First of all,it is important that you adopt a democratic attitude and stop littering in the streets (Because democracy is the name of mutual respect and caring for each other,if you throw rubbish in the streets,your behavior can hurt people on the street,so your behavior will not be democratic) .If you talk to other people living in the street,tell them the benefits of cleanliness and convince them with arguments that we should not throw rubbish in our street,and cleanliness should be taken care of.As a result,if people stop throwing rubbish and the street starts to be clean,we will call this process a democratic tradition.

If one day you gathered all the residents of your street and talk to them about solving the problem quickly and if any funds are needed for cleaning the street then form a committee that they will collect funds from all the houses,and if steps are taken to eliminate street filth,the process will be called democratic.

If we try to understand democracy at the national level,we will see that the population of Pakistan at present is 180 to 190 million.So,like the street example,it is not possible for so many people to come together and decide in one place.That is why elections are processed in which people send their representatives to the assemblies through voting,who become the representatives of the people for a certain period of time and take such steps for the welfare of the common people.

If there is no democratic process,there can be no peace in the society and we can go back to the jungle life,where is the law of Might is Right.
